About CMC

INTRODUCTION:

The Conflict Monitoring Center (CMC) is an Islamabad based independent research center. Presently, it focuses on interstate and intrastate armed conflicts including anti-state and / or anti-government insurgencies and counter-militancy campaigns by security forces particularly in different countries of South Asia. The center prepares periodic analytical reports on South Asian conflicts based on the data collected from mainstream national and international media organizations.

RATIONALE:

South Asian region is faced with the challenges of persistent interstate and intrastate conflicts since long. The failure on the part of the political leadership of the regional states to resolve these problems amicably has turned these conflicts violent.

Consequently, most of the South Asian states face some sort of insurgency, militancy and warfare or even civil war. Armed conflicts take thousands of lives every month in the region besides destroying physical infrastructure and diverting valuable resources away from socio-economic development of regional states. These conflicts also have far-reaching environmental, emotional, psychological, and political consequences for the people of South Asia. Despite of this, there is a little understanding regarding true nature of these conflicts and their impacts on the lives of common people of the region. The existing research organizations either do not pay sufficient attention towards these problems or unable to portray their true picture due to different reasons. It necessitates establishment of an independent, impartial, and neutral research organization, which could focus entirely on various aspects of South Asian conflicts and their implications on the lives of the common people.

The Conflict Monitoring Center (CMC) aims to fulfill this duty-bound responsibility. The center will work with following principles and objectives:

PRINCIPLES:

The center will organize its activities with following principles:

1. Respect for humanity, religious beliefs of all communities and the local laws

2. Adherence to objectivity, impartiality, and neutrality

3. Access to truth and its transmission

OBJECTIVES:

The center endeavors to function with the following aims and objectives:

1. To serve as an independent and reputed think tank on South Asian conflicts

2. To focus entirely on various aspects of inter and intra-state armed political conflicts in South Asia and their implications on the lives of the common man

3. To explore root causes of these conflicts, highlight their different dimensions offer their scientific analysis and assess possible solutions

4. To conduct in-depth studies into various regional political problems and prepare research reports on them.

5. To prepare a team of visionary researchers, which could analyze contemporary international political issues confronted by the regional states as well as foresee the challenges to be faced ahead.

6. To prepare periodic reports on South Asian conflicts including monthly fact sheet on armed conflicts and resultant casualties in regional states.

7. To issue a Journal / Magazine covering various political issues faced by South Asian States, on regular basis.

8. To arrange / organize seminars, workshops, lectures, discussion forums etc. and publish its reports.

9. To present / portray true pictures / nature of South Asian conflicts with balanced local perspectives to the world so that international community could see our problems from our eyes and
